Ajapala Nigrodha Tree - Totoro Tree
The Ajapala Nigrodha Tree, also known as the Totoro Tree, is a significant site in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. According to legend, after attaining enlightenment, Buddha spent his fifth week meditating under this tree.
The tree was planted by a young shepherd boy to protect Buddha, who shared his knowledge on the equality of humankind. Although the original tree no longer exists, a pillar now marks its location at the eastern entrance of the Mahabodhi Temple complex.
This spot is still considered sacred and is visited by many devotees who come to chant and meditate.
