The pond was built during the reign of King Bali Narayan, also known as Dharma Narayan, who fought against the Mughals along with the Ahoms.
Today, Baladev Pukhuri is a registered government fishing zone and a haven for bird watchers. The pond is part of a government fishery project and attracts a variety of migratory birds, especially during the winter months.
