Chapel of St. Catherine of Alexandria
The Chapel of St. Catherine of Alexandria, located in Old Goa, is a historic monument and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Churches and Convents of Goa. Built in 1510 by the Portuguese conqueror Afonso de Albuquerque, the chapel commemorates his victorious entry into Goa on St. Catherine's Day. It was later expanded in 1550 by Governor Jorge Cabral.
The chapel is a fine example of Baroque architecture, featuring a brown-and-white facade, rectangular window panes adorned with mica shells, and a simple yet elegant altar. Although it is no longer functional, the chapel remains a significant cultural and historical landmark, protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.
