French Soldiers War Memorial
The French Soldiers War Memorial in Yanam, Puducherry, is a tribute to the brave soldiers from French India who sacrificed their lives during World War I. The memorial is located on Goubert Avenue, opposite the Gandhi statue. It was originally built in 1937 and inaugurated on April 3, 1938 by Governor Crocicchia.
The memorial features four strong white columns with a life-size statue of a soldier leaning on a rifle. A bronze plaque lists the names of soldiers who died during World War I, with additional plaques honoring those who died in subsequent conflicts such as World War II, the French War in Indochina, and the Algerian War.
