Gandhola Monastery, also known as Guru Ghantal Gompa, is a revered Buddhist monastery located in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. Situated around 18 kilometers before Keylong on the road from Manali, the monastery is perched on a hilltop above Tupchiling Village at an elevation of approximately 3,160 meters.
It is renowned for its historical significance and spiritual ambiance.
Founded by Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava, in the 8th century, Gandhola Monastery is considered the oldest in the Lahaul region. The monastery is associated with the Drukpa Lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism and is maintained by the order of Drukpa monks and nuns.
The serene surroundings and the confluence of the Chandra and Bhaga rivers, which together form the Chenab River, add to the monastery's spiritual allure.
