According to legend, the temple was established by the king of Hathnaur, who built it for his daughter, a devotee of the goddess. The temple has a rich history dating back over 550 years, with connections to the Lodi dynasty and the Kangra royal family.
The temple is situated on a hillock, offering a serene and spiritual atmosphere for devotees and visitors. It is one of the seven sister temples of the Kangra valley, alongside Naina Devi, Jawalamukhi, Chintpurni, Mata Mansa Devi, Brajeshwari, and Chamunda Devi.
