Khokra Kot
The Khokra Kot, also known as Khokhrakot, is an ancient historical site located on the outskirts of Rohtak city in Haryana. This site is identified with the historical town of Rohitika-Rohtak, and its name is derived from its ancient identity. Khokra Kot finds mention in the great epic Mahabharata, and archaeological excavations have uncovered Painted Grey Ware, a class of pottery associated with the epic age, testifying to its antiquity.
The site was the capital of the Yaudheya Republic and has yielded sculptures, coins, terracotta figurines, and other smaller objects dating from the 8th century BC to the 11th century AD. Excavations have been conducted by Prof Manmohan Kumar of Maharshi Dayanand University and Shri J.S.Khatri of the Department of Archaeology & Museums, Government of Haryana.
