The sanctuary is situated in the Krishna River delta and includes several reserve forests such as Sorlagondi, Nachugunta, Yelichetladibba, Kottapalem, Molagunta, Adavuladivi, and Lankivanidibba.
The sanctuary is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The mangrove forests provide a habitat for various plant species, including Casuarina equisetifolia, Pongamia gladra, Calotropis gigantea, and several species of Avicennia.
