Krishna Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Krishna and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh, is a unique and ecologically significant area. The sanctuary spans approximately 194.81 square kilometers and is known for its pristine mangrove forests, which are among the last remaining tracts of thick primary mangrove forests in South India.
The sanctuary is situated in the Krishna River delta and includes several reserve forests such as Sorlagondi, Nachugunta, Yelichetladibba, Kottapalem, Molagunta, Adavuladivi, and Lankivanidibba.
The sanctuary is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. The mangrove forests provide a habitat for various plant species, including Casuarina equisetifolia, Pongamia gladra, Calotropis gigantea, and several species of Avicennia. The sanctuary also supports a rich variety of wildlife, including fishing cats, Olive Ridley turtles, fiddler crabs, mudskippers, and black-capped kingfishers.
Reptiles such as the Indian python, common cobra, Russell's viper, and bamboo pit viper can also be found in the area.
