Nagaur Fort, also known as Ahhichatragarh Fort, is a historical and architectural marvel located in Nagaur, Rajasthan. Originally built in the early 12th century by the Nagavanshi Kshatriya rulers and later modified by the Mughal emperors Shah Jahan and Akbar, the fort covers an area of 36 acres.
It features high walls, spacious courtyards, beautiful gardens, elegant palaces, colorful fountains, magnificent temples, and a museum.
Among its notable structures are the Akbari Mahal, built by Akbar for his wife Harkha Bai, featuring a large hall with a marble throne and a fountain; the Deepak Mahal, built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, known for its splendid hall with mirror work and paintings; and the Hadi Rani Mahal, named after a brave Rajput queen, adorned with floral motifs and paintings.
The Amar Singh Mahal, named after a Rajput king, includes a spacious hall with frescoes and paintings, and the Sheesh Mahal is known for its exquisite mirror work and glass paintings. The Abha Mahal includes a water tank and a garden, while the Rani Mahal houses a museum displaying weapons, armor, paintings, manuscripts, and other artifacts.
Moreover, the fort has two temples: the Ganesh Temple, dedicated to the elephant-headed god Ganesh, and the Shiva Temple, dedicated to the god Shiva.
