Nili Masjid
The Nili Masjid, also known as the Blue Mosque, is a historic mosque located in the Hauz Khas area of South Delhi. Built during the Lodi era in 1505-06 under the reign of Sikander Lodi, the mosque was commissioned by Kausambi, a royal nurse who looked after the son of Khan-i-Azam Khawas Khan. The mosque gets its name from the blue tiles that once adorned its facade, although many of these tiles have decayed over time.
The mosque features three arches under the central dome and inscriptions on the walls that verify its date and history. The interiors are adorned with ornamentation, and the corner towers are built like robust bastions of a fort. Despite its age, the mosque is still in use and has facilities for ablution and piped water.
Located near the Hauz Khas market, the mosque is easily accessible and offers a glimpse into the architectural heritage of the Lodi period. It is a serene spot amidst the bustling residential locality, providing a peaceful environment for visitors and devotees alike.
