Sannihit Sarovar

Sannihit Sarovar, located in Kurukshetra, Haryana, is a sacred and historic water tank that holds immense significance in Hindu mythology and religious tradition. This revered site is an integral part of the landscape of Kurukshetra, a place renowned for its association with the epic Indian text, the Mahabharata.

The name "Sannihit Sarovar" translates to "merged pool" or "confluence tank," signifying its spiritual importance as a place where several sacred rivers and bodies of water are believed to have converged. According to Hindu mythology, it is said that this tank was created during the reign of King Kuru, giving the town of Kurukshetra its name.

Sannihit Sarovar is believed to be the confluence point of seven sacred rivers: the Ganges, Yamuna, Sarasvati, Sarayu, Gomati, Gandaki, and the Drishadvati. It is considered highly auspicious to take a dip in the sarovar during religious events and festivals, as it is believed that doing so cleanses one's sins and grants spiritual blessings.

The annual solar eclipse festival, known as the "Surya Grahan," draws a massive congregation of pilgrims to Sannihit Sarovar. It is believed that taking a dip in the sarovar during a solar eclipse is especially purifying. Kurukshetra, with its association to the Mahabharata and religious significance, is a place where history, mythology, and spirituality converge. The presence of Sannihit Sarovar and other revered sites in the region makes it a center of religious and cultural importance in India.
