Swarn Bhandar
Swarn Bhandar, also known as Son Bhandar Caves, is an ancient cave complex located in Rajgir, Nalanda district, Bihar. These man-made caves are carved into the base of the Vaibhar Hills and are believed to date back to the 3rd or 4th century CE. The caves feature carvings and inscriptions, including a dedicatory inscription by a Jain monk named Vairadeva.
The main cave has a rectangular shape with a vaulted ceiling and a trapezoidal entrance. It is said that the caves once held a huge treasury of King Bimbisar, which could only be opened with secret words written in Sankh Lipi.
The site is well-maintained, clean, and offers a fascinating glimpse into ancient history. Visitors can hire local guides to learn more about the history and significance of the caves.
