Tayul Gompa, also known as Tayul Monastery, is a revered Buddhist monastery located in the Bhaga Valley of Lahaul and Spiti, Himachal Pradesh. Situated about 6 kilometers from Keylong and above the village of Satingri, this monastery is perched at an elevation of approximately 3,900 meters. The name 'Tayul' translates to 'chosen place' in Tibetan, reflecting its significance as a sacred site.
Founded in the 17th century by Lama Serzang Rinchen of the Kham region in Tibet, Tayul Gompa is part of the Drukpa Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is known for its stunning architecture, intricate murals, and vibrant Thangka paintings that depict various Buddhist deities and scenes from Buddhist mythology.
One of the most notable features of the monastery is the 12-foot statue of Guru Padmasambhava, along with his manifestations, Singhmukha and Vajravahi.
