Trinetreshwar Mahadev Temple

The Trinetreshwar Mahadev Temple, also known as the Tarnetar Temple, is a revered Hindu temple located in the Tarnetar village of Surendranagar district, Gujarat. Built by Mihir Bhoj of the Gurjar Pratihar dynasty in the 8th century, the temple is a fine example of the Gurjar Pratihar architectural style. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in his three-eyed form, hence the name "Trinetreshwar," which means "three-eyed Lord".

The temple is closely associated with the legendary swayamvar (marriage ceremony) of Draupadi from the Mahabharata. According to the legend, Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, won Draupadi's hand in marriage by piercing the eye of a rotating fish using only its reflection in water. This historical event is celebrated annually with the Tarnetar Fair, also known as the Trinetreshwar Mahadev Mela, which attracts thousands of visitors.

The temple complex is surrounded by three sacred water reservoirs—Vishnu Kund, Brahma Kund, and Shiv Kund—and pilgrims believe that bathing in these kunds is as auspicious as taking a dip in the holy Ganges River. The temple's rich cultural heritage and historical significance make it a popular pilgrimage site and a significant tourist attraction in Gujarat.
