Udayagiri Fort
Udayagiri Fort, located in the Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, is a historic fort situated at a height of 3,079 feet. It was constructed by Langula Gajapati, a chieftain of the Gajapatis of Orissa, around the 14th century.
The fort later came under the rule of Krishnadevaraya of the Vijayanagara Empire, who took several months to siege it due to its inaccessible location. Over time, it was ruled by the Golconda chieftains and the Nawabs of Arcot.
The fort is known for its natural beauty, with lush vegetation and beautiful waterfalls. It is also called Sanjeevi Hills because of the many medicinal plants found there. The fort complex consists of thirteen fortresses, with eight on the hill and three below, covering an area of about seven miles.
The ruins of 365 temples, reflecting various architectural styles from different periods, add to the historical significance of the site.
