“India Should Be Among the Top Three AI Superpowers Globally”: PM Modi Sets 2047 Vision
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has articulated an ambitious national goal: India should emerge among the top three global AI superpowers by 2047, the centenary year of the country’s independence.
Framing artificial intelligence as a transformative force, he described AI not merely as a technological breakthrough but as a catalyst for inclusive development, economic expansion, and social empowerment.
Speaking at a high-level summit guided by the theme “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhaye” meaning “for the welfare of all, for the happiness of all” the Prime Minister emphasized that AI must be deployed in the public interest.
According to him, intelligence and rationality should guide innovation, ensuring that technology benefits every citizen rather than deepening inequality.
PM Modi highlighted AI’s potential to bridge India’s urban-rural divide by enhancing access to healthcare, agriculture advisory services, education, and digital governance. From precision farming tools to AI-enabled telemedicine and multilingual digital platforms, he underscored how artificial intelligence can democratize opportunities across geographies and socio-economic groups.
Addressing concerns about job displacement due to automation, the Prime Minister acknowledged that AI will reshape employment patterns. However, he stressed that preparation is key. Government-led skilling and re-skilling programs, he noted, must be treated as an urgent national priority.
Rather than viewing AI as a distant future challenge, he described it as a present imperative that demands proactive policy, industry collaboration, and educational reform.
India’s 2047 AI vision aligns with its broader goal of becoming a developed nation, positioning technology as the backbone of growth. By fostering innovation ecosystems, strengthening digital infrastructure, and investing in human capital, the country aims to build a globally competitive yet socially responsible AI framework.
The message was clear: India’s AI journey is not only about technological leadership but about ensuring that progress remains people-centric, ethical, and inclusive.
