Indian travellers planning a trip, long stay, or business move to Thailand will now have to pay higher visa and consular charges. The Royal Thai Embassy has officially revised visa application fees, legalisation charges, and passport-related service costs for applicants in India.
The new fee structure came into effect on April 27, 2026, and applies to all applications submitted through the embassy and Thai consulates in India until further notice.
The updated pricing affects a wide range of visa categories including tourist visas, non-immigrant visas, SMART visas, long-term residency permits, and the increasingly popular Destination Thailand Visa (DTV).
Thailand Updates Visa Costs for Indian Travellers
According to the embassy, the revision is part of a broader update covering visa processing and consular services for foreign applicants in India.
Short-term travel visas have seen moderate increases, while long-duration and residency-related visas now carry significantly higher fees.

SMART Visa and LTR Visa See Major Costs
The biggest fee increases are visible in Thailand’s long-term stay and professional migration programmes. The SMART Visa programme, designed for investors, startup founders, highly skilled professionals, and executives, now ranges from ₹30,000 for a one-year visa to ₹1.2 lakh for a four-year permit.
Meanwhile, the Long-Term Resident (LTR) Visa aimed at wealthy global citizens, remote workers, retirees, and skilled professionals now costs ₹1.4 lakh for Indian applicants.
These visa categories are part of Thailand’s strategy to attract higher-spending visitors, international talent, and long-term foreign residents.
Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) Gains Attention
Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa (DTV), which has become popular among digital nomads and remote workers, will now cost ₹30,000. The visa allows eligible foreigners to stay in Thailand for extended periods while working remotely or engaging in approved activities.
With Thailand positioning itself as a major hub for remote workers in Asia, the DTV continues to attract interest from Indian freelancers, entrepreneurs, and online professionals.
In addition to visa fees, the embassy has updated charges for document legalisation and passport-related services.
Updated Consular Service Fees
| Service | Details | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Legalisation | All Categories | ₹1,400 |
| Ordinary Passport | 5-Year Validity | ₹3,000 |
| Ordinary Passport | 10-Year Validity | ₹4,000 |
| Emergency Passport | Standard | ₹550 |
| Passport Endorsement | Standard | ₹300 |
The revised charges will apply at the Royal Thai Embassy in New Delhi and all Royal Thai Consulates-General across India.
The embassy confirmed the implementation date in its official announcement:
“The new rate of visa fees, legalization fees and consular service fees will be effective from 27 April 2026 onwards at the Royal Thai Embassy and the Royal Thai Consulates-General in India until further announcement.”
Applicants submitting fresh visa requests or consular applications are advised to check the latest fee structure before making payments through authorised channels.
For regular tourists visiting Thailand for short holidays, the fee hike remains relatively manageable. However, professionals, investors, retirees, and long-term travellers may now face significantly higher upfront visa costs.
Despite the revised fees, Thailand remains one of the most popular international destinations for Indian travellers due to its easy connectivity, tourism appeal, business opportunities, and growing remote-work ecosystem.
Travellers are encouraged to verify visa requirements and updated fee details through official embassy channels before applying.
