Balaghat district is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is situated in the eastern part of the state and is known for its rich natural resources and diverse flora and fauna. The district headquarters is also named Balaghat.

Balaghat district is bordered by the districts of Seoni and Mandla to the south, Jabalpur to the west, and Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh state to the east. The northern boundary of the district is formed by the Satpura Range.
