The Manikyamba Temple, also known as the Draksharamam Bhimeswara Swamy Temple, is located in Draksharamam, East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. This ancient temple is one of the five Pancharama Kshetras and is dedicated to Lord Bhimeswara (Lord Shiva) and Manikyamba Devi (Parvati Devi). The temple is renowned for its rich history and stunning architecture, blending Chalukya and Chola styles.
The temple is built on a 12-acre plot and features two prakaras (enclosures). The outer prakara has four entrances marked with gopurams, while the inner prakara houses the main deity, Lord Bhimeswara. The temple walls and pillars are adorned with intricate carvings of gods and goddesses. It is believed that the temple was constructed by the Eastern Chalukya King Bhima during the 9th-10th century AD.
The Manikyamba Temple is also one of the 18 Shakti Peethas, where it is said that a part of Goddess Sati's body fell. Here, Devi Sati's left cheek is worshipped as Manikyamba Devi. The temple is a significant pilgrimage site and attracts devotees from all over.
