The Manipur State Museum, also known as Manipur Pukei Lankei Shanglen, is located near the Imphal Polo Ground in Imphal West, Manipur. Established on September 23, 1969, by Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, the museum is a treasure trove of Manipur's rich cultural heritage.
It houses a diverse collection of artistic, cultural, historical, and scientific artifacts and relics.
The museum features several galleries, including those dedicated to natural history, ethnology, archaeology, and an art gallery. One of the most notable exhibits is the Hiyang Hiren, a royal boat that is 78 feet in length and displayed in an open gallery. The museum also organizes workshops for traditional Manipuri sculptors and various educational programs, making it an important cultural and educational center in the region.
