Tourist Attraction
Vikramshila Setu
Vikramshila Setu is a significant bridge across the Ganges near Bhagalpur in Bihar. Named after the ancient Mahavihara of Vikramashila, it was established by King Dharmapala (783-820 A.D.).
The bridge is approximately 4.4 kilometers long and serves as a crucial link between NH 33 and NH 31, connecting Bhagalpur on the south bank to Naugachhia on the north bank. It has greatly reduced travel time between Bhagalpur and places across the Ganges.
The bridge was opened in 2001 and is maintained by the Bihar Government. Due to increased traffic, there is now a demand for constructing another bridge parallel to it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a new four-lane bridge in 2020.
