Kala Amb Park
Kala Amb Park, located on the outskirts of Panipat, Haryana, is a historically significant site associated with the Third Battle of Panipat. The battle, fought on January 14, 1761, between the Marathas and the Afghan forces led by Ahmad Shah Abdali, resulted in a massive loss of life, with an estimated 75,000 Maratha soldiers perishing in combat.
The park is named after a black mango tree that once stood at the site, under which the Maratha commander Sadashiv Rao Bhau is believed to have fought his last battle. Though the tree no longer exists, its legacy continues through the park’s name.
Today, Kala Amb Park serves as a peaceful retreat where visitors can stroll and reflect on the historical significance of the site. A red obelisk marks the spot where Sadashiv Rao Bhau fell, commemorating the bravery of the Maratha forces. The park is maintained as a heritage site, attracting history enthusiasts and tourists interested in learning about one of the most pivotal battles in Indian history.
