Rang Ghar, located in Sivasagar, Assam, is often referred to as the House of Entertainment or the Colosseum of the East. Built in 1744 by Ahom king Swargadeo Pramatta Singha, it served as a royal sports pavilion where Ahom kings and nobles watched games like buffalo fights, cockfights, and wrestling.
The structure is an excellent example of Ahom architecture, featuring an octagonal base and a roof shaped like an inverted royal Ahom long boat.
The adjoining field, known as Rupohi Pathar, was the venue for these games, especially during the Rongali Bihu festival. Despite its age, Rang Ghar remains one of the oldest surviving amphitheaters in Asia.
