The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, also known as the Indian Botanic Garden or Calcutta Botanic Garden, is located in Shibpur, Howrah, near Kolkata, West Bengal. Established in 1787 by Colonel Robert Kyd of the East India Company, it is one of the oldest and largest botanical gardens in South East Asia.
The garden spans an impressive 109 hectares (273 acres) and is under the care of the Botanical Survey of India (BSI).
One of the main attractions of the garden is the Great Banyan Tree, which is considered one of the largest living trees in the world. The tree has a massive canopy and is over 270 years old.
