Alwar Fort, also known as Bala Quila, is a historic fort situated on a hill in the Aravalli Range overlooking the city of Alwar in Rajasthan. Built in the 15th century by Hasan Khan Mewati, the fort stretches about 5 kilometers in length and 1.5 kilometers in width, making it one of the largest forts in the region.
It features strong defensive architecture with massive walls, six intricately carved gates including Jai Pol and Suraj Pol, and numerous watchtowers that provided panoramic views of the surrounding area. The fort has a rich history of being controlled by various dynasties such as the Nikumbh Rajputs, Mughals, Marathas, and Rajputs, and served as a treasury for Emperor Babar.
Inside the fort are palaces like Jal Mahal and Nikumbh Mahal, temples, and reservoirs, reflecting the blend of military strength and architectural elegance.
