Auden's Col
Auden's Col is a high-altitude mountain pass located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, connecting the Rudugaira valley and the Bhilangna valley. Situated at an elevation of 5,490 meters, it is one of the most challenging treks in the Garhwal Himalayas. The pass was named after John Bicknell Auden, a British explorer and surveyor who first discovered it in 1935 and crossed it in 1939.
The trek to Auden's Col is known for its difficulty, requiring a high level of fitness and endurance. The route takes trekkers through remote and scenic areas, including moraines, glaciers, boulders, and steep ridges. The trek offers stunning views of the Gangotri group of peaks, the Jogin group, the Bhagirathi group, and Kedar Dome.
The trek usually starts from Gangotri and passes through Nala Camp, Rudragaira Base Camp, and Gangotri Base Camp before reaching Auden's Col. After crossing the pass, trekkers descend to the Khatling Glacier and continue to Masar Tal, Vasuki Tal, and finally Kedarnath
