Balsamand Lake
Balsamand Lake, located about 5 kilometers from Jodhpur in Rajasthan, is an artificial lake built in 1159 AD by the Gurjara-Pratihara ruler Balak Rao Parihar primarily as a water reservoir to serve the Mandore region. The lake spans around one kilometer in length and 50 meters in breadth with a depth of about 15 meters.
Surrounded by lush gardens filled with mango, papaya, pomegranate, and other fruit trees, it offers a peaceful retreat from city life. On its banks stands the Balsamand Palace, constructed as a summer residence for the Jodhpur Maharajas, built in 1936 with beautiful red sandstone architecture showcasing a blend of Rajput and Mughal styles.
The lake and palace area provide recreational activities like boat rides, garden walks, and bird watching, making it a popular tourist spot known for its serene and scenic environment. The site also includes a small zoo and offers horse riding and guided tours for visitors, combining heritage and nature in a tranquil setting.
