Basistha Mandir, also known as Basistha Ashram Temple, is an ancient temple located in the Sandhyachal Hills of Kamrup Metropolitan District, Assam. The temple was constructed in the second half of the 18th century by the Ahom king, Raja Rajeswar Singha. It is one of the last remaining monuments built by the Ahom dynasty.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is situated on the bank of a mountain stream that originates from the hills of Meghalaya. According to legend, the ashram was founded by the sage Vashistha, and it is believed that he meditated in a cave near the ashram. The temple is built in the typical Kamrup architectural style and features a lingam in the main sanctum.
The ashram is also known for its association with several legends, including one where the sage cursed Lord Indra, leading to the establishment of the Ahom Kingdom .
