Bir Bhadson Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Patiala district of Punjab, covers about 10.23 square kilometers and was established in 1952 under the Fauna of Patiala Act. Originally a hunting ground (shikargah) for local rulers, it now protects diverse ecosystems including dry deciduous forests and grasslands. The sanctuary is home to various wildlife such as blue bull (nilgai), jungle cat, jackal, rhesus monkeys, hares, and rodents.
Bird species include peafowl, black and grey partridges, rose-ringed parakeets, and spotted owlets. The sanctuary’s forest type is Northern Tropical Dry Mixed Deciduous, supporting a rich variety of plants including kikar, eucalyptus, jamun, beri, neem, and shisham.
