Borra

Borra, located near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, is famous for the Borra Caves, a major natural limestone cave system situated in the Ananthagiri hills of the Araku Valley.

These caves lie at an elevation of about 700 meters and are known for their impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations that have natural shapes resembling various figures like human brains and animals. The caves extend to a depth of around 80 meters and are formed by the Gosthani River flowing through limestone rock over millions of years.

Discovered in 1807 by a British geologist, the Borra Caves are among the deepest and largest caves in India and attract tourists and researchers alike. The surrounding region is hilly, lush, and part of the Eastern Ghats, offering a cool climate with an average temperature around 25°C. Borra is accessible by road and rail, with the nearest major city being Visakhapatnam, about 90 kilometers away.

The area’s natural beauty, along with its geological and cultural significance, makes Borra a prominent destination in Andhra Pradesh.
