British Residency
The British Residency, also known as the Government Guest House or Residency Bungalow, is a historic colonial mansion situated in the Asramam area of Kollam, Kerala. Built between 1811 and 1819 by Colonel John Munro during the Travancore era, to serve as the residence of the British Resident in Travancore.
The structure integrates European, Indian, and Tuscan architectural styles. It features a central rounded front, a large gable decoration, and atop the building sits a crown with a lion and the motto "Dieu et mon Droit" (God and my right) inscribed above.
The Residency is set along the banks of Ashtamudi Lake, offering scenic views of the surrounding area. Today it also functions as a government guest house and is considered one of the prominent landmarks in Kollam.
