CSI St. Mary's Church, also known as the Westminster Abbey of the East, is a historic Anglican church located at Fort St. George in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
It is the oldest British building in India and was consecrated on October 28, 1680. The church was designed by either Edward Foule or William Dixon and was built to serve the religious needs of the British East India Company's employees.
The church features a unique architectural design with a nave and two aisles, and a spacious gallery at the west end of the nave. It has a rich history, including being used as a barrack and granary during times of war.
The church is also known for its beautiful Burma teak pillars and its role in significant historical events, such as the marriage of Robert Clive and Margaret Maskelyne in 1753.
