Choolannur Pea Fowl Sanctuary, locally known as Mayiladumpara, is located in Chulanur village in Palakkad district, Kerala. Established in 2007, it is Kerala's only peafowl sanctuary, dedicated to the conservation of the Indian peafowl and other bird species within its 3.42 square kilometers of dry deciduous forest and scrubland. The sanctuary is named in memory of Induchoodan, a noted Indian ornithologist and writer.
It offers a natural habitat supporting various fauna, including mammals, reptiles, and diverse bird species, making it a popular destination for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Facilities include nature education centers and butterfly parks designed to promote conservation awareness, and plastic use is banned to protect the ecosystem.
