Cumbum Lake
Cumbum Lake, also known as Gundlakamma Lake, is one of the oldest man-made lakes in Asia. Located in the Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh, the lake was originally built on the Gundlakamma rivulet upon the Nallamala Hills. The anicut was constructed by Varadharajamma, the Vijayanagar princess and wife of King Krishnadevaraya, in the 17th century.
The lake is approximately 7 kilometers long and 3.5 kilometers wide, with an effective storage capacity of 3.38 tmc ft. It is the second-largest irrigation tank in Asia and provides water to around 10,300 acres of land for irrigation. The lake is also recognized as a World Heritage Irrigation Structure (WHIS) by UNESCO.
