Cyclopean Wall
The Cyclopean Wall in Rajgir, Nalanda district, Bihar, is an impressive ancient fortification built with massive undressed stones fitted together without mortar. The name "Cyclopean" comes from its resemblance to similar walls in ancient Greece, which were also built with large, irregular stones. The wall was constructed during the reign of King Bimbisara and his son Ajatshatru, contemporaries of Buddha.
The wall features bastions at intervals to strengthen its structure and was originally about 14 feet wide. According to Pali texts, the fortified city had 32 large gates and 64 smaller ones.
A considerable part of this ancient massive wall still exists, running along the Ratnagiri hill.
