The Diwan-e-Aam, also known as the Hall of Public Audience, is a significant historical monument located within the City Palace complex in Jaipur, Rajasthan. Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II between 1729 and 1732, the hall was designed to resemble the Mughal style of public audience halls with cusped arches and marble pillars.
The Diwan-e-Aam was used by the king to address the public, listen to their grievances, and conduct court proceedings.
The hall is adorned with beautiful red and gold paintings on the ceiling, intricate marble carvings, and ornate rugs that cover the floor. The golden throne, where the king sat during public sessions, is a highlight of the hall. The southern end of the hall features latticed windows, known as jalis, which allowed the royal women to observe the proceedings without being seen.
