Named after the renowned Indian ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali, the sanctuary is a birdwatcher's paradise, hosting over 400 species of birds, both resident and migratory.
Visitors can explore the sanctuary via a scenic ferry ride from the Ribandar ferry wharf. The sanctuary features a three-storey watchtower that offers panoramic views of the area at different levels. The lush mangrove forests provide an ideal habitat for various aquatic life, including fish and insects.
