Tourist Attraction
Dunagiri
Dunagiri is a majestic peak in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, part of the Garhwal Himalayas. It stands at an impressive 7,066 meters (23,182 feet) and is located at the northwest corner of the Sanctuary Wall, a ring of peaks surrounding the Nanda Devi Sanctuary. The first successful ascent of Dunagiri was made on July 5, 1939, by Swiss climbers Andrè Roch, F. Steuri, and D. Zogg via the southwest ridge.
The peak is known for its challenging climbing routes, including the southwest ridge and the southeast buttress. Dunagiri is a less frequented peak compared to some other Himalayan giants, making it a virgin peak with untouched natural beauty. The trek to Dunagiri typically starts from the holy town of Badrinath, which is accessible by road from cities like Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun.
