Ekambaranathar Temple
Ekambaranathar Temple, also known as Ekambareswarar Temple, is a significant Hindu temple located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is one of the five Pancha Bhoota Stalas, representing the element of earth (Prithvi Lingam).
The temple is one of the largest in India, covering 25 acres, and features a towering 192-foot gopuram, making it one of the tallest temple towers in the country. The temple has a rich history, with its origins dating back to the Pallava dynasty, while later expansions were carried out by the Chola and Vijayanagar rulers.
A notable feature of the temple is the ancient mango tree, believed to be over 3,500 years old, under which Goddess Parvati is said to have performed penance to unite with Lord Shiva. The temple hosts six daily rituals and twelve yearly festivals, with the Panguni Uthiram festival being the most prominent, celebrated for thirteen days in March-April.
