Fattegad
Fattegad, also known as Fattehgad, is a coastal fort located about 15 kilometers from Dapoli in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. It was built by Khairiyat Khan during the reign of Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century as one of three forts designed to protect the important Suvarnadurg fort, along with Goa Fort and Kanakdurg.
The fort was once under the control of the Maratha naval commander Tulaji Angre. Conflicts involving the Peshwas, British, and Angre led to the fort being captured by Captain James for the British, and later it came under British control in 1817. Currently, the fort remains in a dilapidated state, with only parts of the walls and a bridge connecting it to Kanakdurg still standing.
The fort’s strategic location along the Konkan coast once made it a key defense point and it is now a site of historical and tourist interest near the fishing village of Harne.
