Established in 1984 and opened to the public in 1995, it is one of the three high-altitude zoos in India, with the others located in Darjeeling and Sikkim. The zoo is spread over 4.6 hectares (11 acres) and is home to a variety of endangered species, including the Royal Bengal Tiger, Tibetan Wolves, Sambar, Leopard Cat, and Himalayan Bear.
