Gandhi Memorial Mandapam in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, is a significant monument dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Located near the seashore, the memorial commemorates Gandhi's visits to Kanyakumari in 1925 and 1937. After his assassination in 1948, one of the urns containing his ashes was brought to Kanyakumari and kept at the spot where the memorial now stands before being immersed in the sea.
The memorial, completed in 1956, is designed in the Orissa architectural style and features a central spire that is 79 feet tall, symbolizing Gandhi's age at the time of his death. The most remarkable feature of the memorial is its ceiling, which has an opening that allows sunlight to fall on the exact spot where Gandhi's ashes were kept every year on October 2nd, his birth anniversary.
The memorial also houses photographs and artifacts related to Gandhi's life and the Indian independence movement.
