The name Gaumukh literally means the "mouth of a cow," and the water flows into the reservoir through cracks in the rocks, resembling a cow's mouth. This natural spring is considered one of the most important water sources within the fort.
The reservoir is surrounded by lush greenery and is home to numerous fish, which visitors often feed as part of a religious practice. Near the Gaumukh Kund, you can find the Rani Padmini Tunnel, which is believed to lead to an underground chamber where Rani Padmini performed 'Jauhar' during a siege.
