Ghantaghar, also known as the Husainabad Clock Tower, is a historic landmark located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Standing tall at 221 feet, it is the tallest clock tower in India and is often compared to Big Ben in London. The tower was built in 1881 to commemorate the arrival of Sir George Cooper, the first lieutenant governor of the United Provinces of Oudh.
Designed by British architect Roskell Payne, the tower features intricate stucco work, ornamental plasterwork, and beautiful designs. It has four clock faces, each with a 12-petalled flower-shaped dial, symbolizing the 12 hours. The clock tower's massive wheels and durable gun-metal parts are a testament to the craftsmanship of the time.
