Govind Pashu Vihar National Park
Govind Pashu Vihar National Park, located near Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand, covers an area of about 958 square kilometers in the higher reaches of the Garhwal Himalayas. Established initially as a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and later designated a national park, it is named after Indian freedom fighter Govind Ballabh Pant.
The park features varying elevations from 1,300 meters to over 6,300 meters, hosting diverse ecosystems ranging from broadleaf forests to subalpine conifer forests and alpine meadows. It is home to endangered species like the snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, and western tragopan, along with about 150 bird species including the golden eagle and bearded vulture.
