Guru Ghasidas National Park (Sanjay)

Guru Ghasidas National Park, also known as Sanjay National Park, is located in the Koriya district of Chhattisgarh and extends into parts of the Sidhi and Singrauli districts in Madhya Pradesh. The park covers a large area of approximately 466.657 square kilometers and forms a significant part of the Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve.

It was originally established as Sanjay National Park in Madhya Pradesh before the formation of Chhattisgarh when the majority of the park area came under the new state and was renamed in honor of Guru Ghasidas. The park is composed of dry deciduous forests characteristic of the Narmada Valley and serves as an important corridor for tigers moving between Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and Palamu Tiger Reserve. Famous for its rich biodiversity, it is home to species such as Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, Indian bison, and a variety of birds and reptiles.

Guru Ghasidas National Park was declared Chhattisgarh’s fourth tiger reserve in 2021, marking it the 53rd tiger reserve in India. The terrain features thick forests intersected by streams, offering a sanctuary for many endangered species and attracting nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
