Hari Parbat Fort
Hari Parbat Fort is a historic fortification located atop the Hari Parbat hill in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. The fort has a rich history dating back to the Mughal era. Originally, the fortifications were constructed by Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1590 as part of his plans to build a new capital at the site of modern-day Srinagar. However, the project was never completed.
The present structure of the fort was built by Atta Mohammad Khan, the governor of Kashmir under the Durrani Empire, between 1795 and 1806. The fort features impressive stone rubble masonry and includes two surviving gateways: the Sangeen Darwaza and the Kathi Darwaza.
Hari Parbat Fort is not only a historical site but also a place of religious significance. The fort houses the Sharika Devi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Parvati, on its western slope. The southern side of the fort features the shrine of Makhdoom Sahib, a 16th-century Kashmiri Sufi saint, and a mosque dedicated to Shah Badakhshi, a 17th-century Qadiri Sufi saint. Moreover, there is a Gurdwara Chatti Patshahi, believed to be the place where Guru Har Gobind, the sixth Sikh guru, stayed during his travels.
