Indrai Fort, also known as Indragiri Fort, is a hill fort located about 75 km from Nashik in the Chandwad taluka of Nashik district, Maharashtra. It stands at an elevation of approximately 4,490 feet (1,368 meters) on the Ajanta-Satmala hill range.
The fort is relatively less visited by trekkers but is known for its historical importance and natural beauty. It features rock-cut steps, caves, water cisterns, a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, and ruins including a Kacheri (office). Historically, the fort guarded an important trade route connecting north to south, alongside nearby forts such as Chandwad, Rajdher, and Koldher.
The fort was captured by Mughal forces under Alavardikhan in 1636 and later surrendered to British Captain Mackintosh in 1818 after the neighboring Rajdher fort was burned. Visitors can explore carved caves, fortifications, and enjoy panoramic views of surrounding forts. The terrain and structures testify to its antiquity, and it serves as a popular trekking destination for history and adventure enthusiasts.
