Jaldapara National Park

Jaldapara National Park, located in Alipurduar district of West Bengal at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, spans about 216 square kilometers and is primarily known for its large population of the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, making it the second-largest rhino habitat in India after Kaziranga.

The park features diverse environments including tall elephant grass savannahs, riverine forests, perennial streams, sandy riverbanks, and extensive grasslands. Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1941 and upgraded to a national park in 2012, it supports a rich variety of wildlife such as Indian elephants, leopards, deer species, wild boars, bisons, and many bird species like the Bengal florican, crested eagle, and Indian hornbill. The Torsa River runs through the park, enhancing its ecological diversity, and it is a popular destination for birdwatching, wildlife photography, and elephant safaris.

Jaldapara’s climate varies with warm summers and a monsoon season that supports its lush vegetation, making it a vibrant habitat for flora and fauna. This national park plays a crucial role in the conservation of endangered species and offers visitors a unique natural experience in the eastern Himalayan foothills.
