Javlya Fort
Javlya Fort is a historic hill fort located about 43 kilometers from Nashik in Maharashtra. It forms part of a twin fort complex with the neighboring Ravlya Fort, both situated on a shared plateau in the Chandor Range.
Built to oversee the trade route from Khandesh to Nashik, these forts are also known locally as the "Rola-Jola" forts. Javlya was captured by Alavardi Khan for the Mughals in 1636 and later won by Shivaji Maharaj in 1670.
The fort faced several battles, including a siege by Dilerkhan in 1671 and later came under the control of the Peshwas before the British took over in 1818. To prevent further use, the British destroyed key structures including the steps, bastion, and walls in 1819. Today, Javlya Fort mainly features ruins including a single gate with a Ganesh idol and rock-cut water cisterns, offering historical significance and trekking opportunities for visitors.
